After a weekend off, the Bamboos women’s and men’s squads are back on the road to compete in the third tournament of the season. The teams are making the hour-long trip to Somerset, to compete at the Frome Sevens, a fixture which has become a regular in the diary, after making the first appearance in 2017.
Frome has always been proven a fruitful ground for the Bamboos, as the men’s team managed to get away with two titles in the previous couple of years. The ladies’ side also showed a strong performance last year, when they only just lost in the semis against Cup winners Swansea.
This Saturday, with the boost of four players from the German 7s set-up, the boys, captained by Ben Mc Stay, are aiming to secure more silverware in Frome. However, the task ahead is without a doubt a challenging one with several Welsh top teams represented in the very strong 8-team line-up of the Open.
The Bamboos men’s team will face current Frome and Hartpury champions Gogerrdan Raiders, the Carmarthen Warriors, one of Welsh’s best 7s team as well as Y Baabaariad, another experienced team from Wales in the pool stage.
For the Bamboos women’s side, captained by Jenny Herring, the tournament will be another big test of character for the team which has shown consistently solid performances during the tough tournaments at the Hartpury Sevens in May and the SW7s Festival a fortnight ago in Bristol.
Like the men’s team, the ladies are also competing in an eight-team tournament, with Carmarthen Warriors, Dorset & Wilts, and the Mayans going head-to-head in Pool B.
With two full squads available, it’s all set to become a brilliant day of 7s. If you like to come down and support us, the matches kick-off at 10AM and the tournament address is Gypsy Lane, Frome BA11 2NA
