Bamboos Men’s Squad aim to finish season on a high

This Saturday the Bamboos men’s team make the short trip down to Bath in order to compete at the Avon 7s tournament, hosted by Avon RFC. This will be the last 7s tournament of the season, and a golden opportunity to finish the summer in style.

After a refreshing trip to the South West Beach Rugby tournament a fortnight ago, the team will be back in their usual environment, setting the focus on the 7-a-side format. After 2015 and 2016, this will be our third visit to the Avon 7s.

Like in the previous two 7s tournaments, the Bamboos will be once again boosted by German international players, as part of the new partnership between the DRV (German Rugby Board) and 7 Bamboos RFC.

For this Saturday, we welcome Jarrod Saul, John Dawe, Tim Biniak and Niklas Hohl to the team. The quartet will bring a huge combined experience of international 7s to the squad, as all four of them have been core members of the highly successful German 7s programme competing on the GPS circuit as well as top-class international tournaments such as Dubai and Hong-Kong.

In terms of the Bristol-based players, captain Alex Hughes and utility back Alex Onyeahasi will be back in the squad after recovering from injuries. In addition, Ben West, who has shown his quality at the South West Beach Tournament joins the squad as well as James Osola who makes his debut on Saturday.

The Bamboos have been drawn into Pool C for Saturday and will face Whitehead Stags, Rangers 7s as well as our good friends Godfathers Rugby.

Matches kick-off from 10 AM. For all supporters who wish to come down on Saturday, the tournament address is London Road, Bath, BA1 7DA.
