This Sunday, the Bamboos Women’s team will travel 120 miles down south to Plymouth Albion RFC in order to compete in the Secure Trading 24/Sevens Regional Finals 2018. This is the second time, the team gets involved in the South-West division of this challenging RFU-managed competition, where hundreds of amateur sevens teams determine the best one in the country.
At last year’s regional final in Exeter, the girls were fighting bravely but just fell short of making it to the national final after losing to hosts Exeter University in the deciding match. This year, however, the team has an excellent opportunity to go all the way and qualify for a potential space in the nationals, two weeks later at the famous Rec in Bath.
The squad is constantly growing and developing at the moment. In their previous three tournaments, the Bamboos either made it to a semi-final or final as well as winning the Plate at the SW7s in Bristol. The performances have been consistently solid this year and the team is very excited and motivated to play in such a high-class event, says team manager Max Lueck ahead of the tournament.
Lead by captain Sue Neumann, the Bamboos will face besides hosts Plymouth Albion, Oakmeadians Ladies, Swansea Ladies, Plymstock Oaks Ladies, Melksham Ladies RFC and Crediton "Cougars" at the Brickfields Recreational Ground.
The winners and the runners-up will progress to the national finals.
