For our women’s team, the second full season will come to an end this weekend, following four intense and successful months. Throughout the season, the squad managed to constantly improve and develop, a process which were topped off last weekend with the Cup win of Germany’s biggest 7s tournament, the AMS Sevens in Neckarsulm near Stuttgart.
However, the Bamboos are hungry for more as they head into the last tournament of the year at the famous Rec, home of Premiership side Bath Rugby, this Saturday. It’s the first time, the team qualified for the National Finals of the Secure Trading 24/Sevens Series. A fortnight ago the team secured a space by making it to the final of the Regional Qualifiers in Plymouth.
This is such a unique opportunity to represent the club in front of a large-scale crowd (the RFU expects over 3000 spectators) at such a prestigious event, says coach Lewis Pratten. The girls have done extremely well in Plymouth and fully deserved to be among the eight best 7s teams in the country.
For club captain Sue Neumann these are busy days. She played almost every match of the previous three tournaments in Frome, Plymouth and Neckarsulm. With 12 out of 14 matches won, the confidence levels are high up and the playmaker is aiming to guide her team once again to the Cup final on Saturday.
However, the standard of the National Finals will be extremely high and there are certainly no weak opponents in Bath. Top teams such as title defenders Northern Lights, English Universities and Plymouth Champions Swansea are all among the teams to beat.
But the Bamboos squad looks strong and ready to go for the last push of the domestic 7s season. We would be delighted if can come down to Bath in order to support our girls. For free ticket registration, please click here.
