The only corporate touch rugby tournament in Gloucestershire returns this week with 16 companies competing for the annual Hartpury Corporate Challenge Cup. The fourth edition of the tournament features businesses from Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bristol and Cardiff during a unique and action-packed day at Hartpury College and University.
For the first time, the event will take place on a Friday offering participating teams the opportunity to finish a hard-working week in style. The Challenge Cup was launched for the first time in 2015 as part of the World Cup Trophy Tour and is now a regular fixture in the busy rugby calendar of the college.
In addition to the Hartpury Sevens, the Corporate Challenge Cup is the second mayor rugby event 7 Bamboos Rugby organises in partnership with Hartpury.
For participating teams, this is not just a fantastic chance to enjoy a day out of the office together but also to generate some valuable new links with other businesses in the area.
The teams consist of female as well as male players and matches last 18 minutes. After a round-robin style pool stage, the top eight sides compete for the Cup while the bottom eight will target the Plate and Shield, giving every team a possibility to leave with some silverware.
This year, representatives from the equine and agriculture departments of the college will also be onsite to put the players milking and horse riding skills to test. In addition, Hartpury provides their famous match-day BBQs and the Clubhouse will be open to enjoy a cold drink on another hot summer day.
Participating companies include big names across several industries, such as Rolls-Royce, Deloitte and Network Rail. Co-hosts Hartpury College and University are also competing with their very own team of college staff.
The tournament kicks-off at 11.00AM at the Sports Academy. Spectators are more than welcome to come down and watch, the entry is free of charge.
