In glorious sunshine and temperatures above 25 degrees, the Bamboos Women’s team progressed all the way to the final of the Secure Trading Regional Finals in Plymouth yesterday.
In the Cup final, the girls faced the strong and experienced 7s side Swansea RFC Women’s, a familiar team which already won the SW7s and Frome 7s this season. On both occasions, the Bamboos left the pitch defeated. In yesterday’s contest, our team started strongly and kept up with the high tempo of the Welsh side. However, eventually, it just wasn’t enough to beat them. Rachel Taylor and captain Sue Neumann both scored in the final which ended 31-12 to Swansea.
Nevertheless, the performance by the Bamboos throughout the day was outstanding and probably the best one yet this season. The team started the campaign with 38-21 win against hosts Plymouth Albion, before beating Plymstock in the other pool match 45:0 to qualify for the Cup semi-final where they faced a strong Oakmedians RFC team. This match was a lot closer and tight all the way to the end. However, once again the girls kept their composure to win 28-14.
As both Cup finalists secured their tickets for the National Final on the 28th July in Bath, the Bamboos sensationally qualified for this large-scale and prestigious competition at the home ground of Bath Rugby.
We would be delighted to welcome any supporters to the National Final. In order to book your free tickets please visit the official ticket website.
