At the third edition of the annual Hartpury Corporate Challenge Cup, the team from Rolls Royce won the top tier title at their debut appearance. In a high-quality final against hosts and title-defenders Hartpury College, the world-famous engineering company scored 5 tries in order to secure the Cup trophy. Until the final Hartpury stayed unbeaten and managed to finish the pool stage in top-position.
During two intense Cup semi-finals, Hartpury beat Business West 4:3 to book a place in the final while Rolls Royce had to go all the way to extra time in a cracking match against last year’s finalists Safran Landing Systems to book the ticket for the final.
The losers of the Cup semi-final went head-to-head in order to play for the Shield trophy. And yet again it was an extremely tight affair with the slightly better end for Business West who beat Safran 4:3.
However, Safran Landing System still finished the day with silverware as their second team won by the Plate final in another close and thrilling match against a squad from the gym-chain Everyone Active.
Ten teams participated at this year’s competition split into two groups of five. The teams travelled from Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bristol to the stunning rugby facilities of championship side Hartpury RFC and Premiership outfit Gloucester Rugby. Touch rugby is an extremely popular format of the game and social as well as competitive leagues are held in many cities across the South-West.
A special thanks goes to the brilliant referees from the Gloucestershire and Bristol Refereeing Society as well as Dean Seeliger and his fantastic Sports Massage Students for their outstanding service.
