This Sunday 7 Bamboos RFC will complete a six-stage summer tour with a final appearance at the National Pub Sevens. In Harpenden, near Luton, where the Bamboos played their first-ever tournament 12 months ago the team will complete the campaign.
Back to the roots - The National Pub Sevens
After two hugely successful competitions in Swindon and North Dorset last month, the squad is eager to secure another title. Although the National Pub Sevens are traditionally full of top-class teams, the Bamboos are still confident to have a successful day. Due to a strong finishing position last year, we managed to gain one of the valuable “seeding” spaces. High profile teams such as Germany, London Wasps, British Army and the Royal Navy will also play in Harpenden.
In Pool 11, the team will face Kia Ora Boys and the Pink Socks, two completely unknown teams. You never know what sides you will come across in such big tournaments however we will target the top spot in our pool.
The squad for the tournament include a few changes since North Dorset 7s. We selected two uncapped players with Adam Gouha and Henry Joliffe. Both have trained with us throughout the summer and underlined their quality in training. Gouha can play on the center or forward position whereas Joliffe is a scrumhalf.
In addition a well-known player from last year will return after a lengthy injury break. Forward Jake Perry-Gardiner has just been declared fit in time for Sunday. The student from Cardiff Uni was struggling with a groin injury but is now ready to launch the team again.
Finally captain Jack Royle also returns, recovering successfully from an ankle injury.
