PART 1: Holistic Athlete Development
- Created: Thursday, 22 May 2014 16:10
In this series of blogs I like to introduce a concept for coaches and athletes that aim to develop skills gained and applied outside the usual training and competition environment. The core argument is that coaches and athletes should emphasise a stronger requirement for implementing and developing a range of skills which athletes can use off the rugby field as well as on the field. I am certain that many visionary coaches out there recognised this need already and therefore this blog should rather raise awareness for a known idea than preaching something completely new. In this first part, I’ll briefly introduce the root of the idea and try to explain the need for it based on some examples. Later on in the series, I’ll dig deeper and use detailed cases from own experiences to provide a more precise picture on how this concept could be used in practical terms.
