Australia's women achieved an historical win history in France when they became the first Australian Rugby team to win a World Rugby Sevens Series last weekend.

After five rounds of the series, Australia just needed a quarter-final win over Spain in Clermont to secure the title, after winning series rounds in Dubai, Sao Paulo and Atlanta this season.

However after beating Spain in the quarter-finals and New Zealand in the semi-finals Tim Walsh’s team just lost to Canada in the final. The Canadians earlier overcame Fiji and England on their way to the final.

In the final standings Australia finish ahead of New Zealand and Canada followed by England in fourth position.

The HSBC Sevens World Series remains a competition full of surprises. After shock wins by Kenya and Samoa in the last two tournaments, it was Scotland’s turn to achieve a historic first-ever Cup win at the last tournament of the season. Scotland became the sixth different winner during the 10-tournament series. Earlier they have beaten rivals England and USA on their way to the final. The Scots beat South Africa in a remarkable 27-26 victory after being 26-15 down at some point.

In the other competitions, New Zealand beat Argentina 29-14 to win the Plate trophy, Wales overcame Australia 24-19 in the Bowl final and Kenya secured the Shield with a confident 31-7 win against Russia.

Yesterday, Fiji were already crowned with the series title after qualifying for today’s Cup quarter-finals.

After nine enthralling rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the season eventually comes to an end at the “home of rugby”. London invites fans around the globe to the last leg of what has been the biggest 7s series yet. This might be once again Fiji’s big year as they can win back-to-back titles this weekend. One man could make all the difference for Ben Ryan’s side this weekend.

WHERE AND WHEN?

The HSBC London Sevens take place at Twickenham (Capacity 82,000) on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of May.

The matches kick-off of at 09:30 on both days. The final is scheduled for 17:57 on Sunday.

See the full fixture list here.

WHERE CAN I SEE IT?

In the UK Sky Sports will cover the tournament on all days. For a full TV guide click here, for any other country check out this handy guide.

WHO’S THE FAVOURITE?

The last two tournaments in Singapore and Paris both ended in unpredicted shock wins for Kenya and Samoa – which proved that 7s is still full of surprises even on the top level. London is a good ground for big upsets as the USA shown last year when they beat Australia in the final to win their first-ever Cup. However, Fiji will try everything to win back-to-back series titles. Second placed South Africa focus will be on stopping the Fijians on the last leg to secure the first series trophy since 2008-09 and three successive years of ending in second position.

ONE TO WATCH

Since a couple of weeks the rugby world is talking about one man. Former NFL and NRL star Jarryd Hayne did get the green light to play for his dad’s birth country Fiji last minute. Fans around the world will be excited to see this extraordinary athlete back on a rugby field.

WHO’S LEADING?

After nine out of 10 rounds Fiji gathered 166 points together. They are now 14 points ahead of second-placed South Africa, which should be enough to bring the series title back home again. New Zealand in third position with 145 points still has a realistic chance to snatch the second place this weekend.
