After the second day at the USA 7s Fiji, South Africa, Australia and the USA remain in the race for the Cup title.

In front of 35,716 spectators the Americans beat Kenya to set up a semi-final against current table leaders Fiji, while South Africa overcame rivals New Zealand in order to face Australia in the second semi-final. Earlier Australia beat Argentina 26-12, while Fiji comfortable won against Japan 43-7.

Kenya produced a big shock win yesterday with a clear 22-0 win over New Zealand.

England's disappointing tournament continued, suffering a 36-7 defeat to Australia, resulting in the bottom position of their pool. They will open day three today with a Shield semi-final against Canada.

New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa and Australia have all secured their quarter-final tickets after day one at the USA Sevens. The remaining four quarter-final spots are still up for grabs with one remaining round of pool matches yet to be played.

In Pool A, New Zealand underlined their strong current performance 80 points and conceding just one try in wins over Russia and Portugal.

South Africa also won both of their matches on day one with Bryan Habana returning to 7s after a 12-year absence to score a try with the first touch of the ball. The Blitzboks beat Canada and Wales, in order to move in top position for day 2.

USA won their opening match 19-12 against Wales before a gripping draw with North American rivals and next week's hosts Canada.

Elsewhere Pool C is wide open after defending current series leaders Fiji lost to Samoa before beating France 42-12.

Samoa missed the chance to qualify for the Cup with a victory over Argentina but a 25-12 loss meant they still have to do some work on day two.

Australia were the only other side to win both of their matches on day one, beating Scotland and Japan in Pool B to qualify for the last eight.

England left it late to snatch a 19-19 draw with Japan who had led 19-5 at some point.

After a month-long break the HSBC World Sevens Series returns this weekend with the fifth round in Las Vegas. The three-day tournament is packed with southern hemisphere superstars from the 15-a-side game including Bryan Habana, Quade Cooper and Liam Messam. Without a doubt, this weekend turns Sin City into Sevens Heaven.

Where and When?

The fifth round of the HSBC Sevens Series takes place at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas (capacity 40,000) from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th of March.

The matches kick-off on Friday at 15:51 local time (23:51 UK time), Saturday 11:32 local time (19:32 UK time) and Sunday 10:30 local time (19:30 UK time).

Who’s the favourite?

Traditionally the Springboks are the team to beat in Las Vegas with three title wins in the previous five years. However the All Blacks are currently in perfect form as they snatched Cup-trophies at the last two tournaments in Sydney and Wellington.

Certainly hosts USA will enter the competition with bags of confidence especially after a very strong start to the season. So maybe the time and place is just right for America’s second title win.

One to watch

So many stars to watch this weekend and it will be interesting to watch how the 15s converts Habana and Cooper will adapt to the ruthless 7s environment. Surely the one or another 15s player around the globe will follow it closely.

Who’s leading?

Currently Fiji, South Africa and New Zealand are sharing the pole position with 69 points each, followed by Australia and Argentina with 54 points each. The best European team is England in 6th position with 51 points.

Australia claimed the title at the second round of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series in Sao Paulo on Sunday.

In a downpour, Shannon Parry led her team to a 29-0 win over Canada, who had earlier shocked reigning champions New Zealand in the semi-finals. Russia beat Japan to win the Bowl, while France overcame Fiji 17-5 in the Plate final.

Third place went to New Zealand, who, despite improving on their fifth place finish in Dubai, will be disappointed not to have made the final in Brazil.

The next stage of the World Rugby Women's Series takes place in Atlanta, USA (9-10 April) before moving straight to Langford, British Columbia, Canada (16-17 April).

New Zealand won the fourth round of the HSBC World Sevens Series in Sydney, beating hosts Australia 27-24 in a breathtaking final.

The All Blacks Sevens remain in third position but move to the same points as leaders Fiji (69), who reclaimed top spot by beating South Africa 26-12 to finish third in Sydney, and the second-place Blitzboks with points difference separating the three teams at the top.

In the semi-finals New Zealand beat Fiji 14-12, while Australia defeated South Africa 12-7.

In the quarters New Zealand beat USA 24-7 coming from 12-7 behind to beat England 17-12 in sudden death extra time.

Argentina proved themselves to be worthy winners of the Plate at the HSBC Sydney Sevens after a solid team performance against Kenya gave them a 24-0 win.

In the Bowl final Canada won all three of their matches on day two to win the Bowl. Following wins over Scotland and Wales, Canada beat Samoa 17-12 to claim eight points for their overall series tally.

Wales beat Russia 26-19 to lift the Shield after a tough weekend in Sydney. Welsh flyer Luke Morgan scored a hat-trick in the win.

Fiji, South Africa and England won all three of their pool games on the first day at the Sydney Sevens. Hosts Australia and New Zealand completed the day with an enthralling 17-17 draw.

Hosts Australia and last week's champions New Zealand provided an enthralling ending to the opening day of the HSBC Sydney Sevens with a dramatic 17-17 draw.

In the Pool A decider, New Zealand came from 17-5 down at half-time to level the scores, putting the All Blacks through as pool winners on points differential. They will face the USA in the first quarter-final on day two, while England competes against Australia.

Ben Ryan's Fiji continued their impressive pool stage record, their three wins ensuring they have now tasted victory in 39 of their last 39 pool matches after victories over Samoa, France and Argentina. They will face Kenya in their quarter-final on day two.

Series leaders South Africa beat Kenya 26-19 to finish top of Pool B. The Blitzboks will come up against Argentina in a repeat of the HSBC Cape Town Sevens final.

England beat USA 17-14 in a thrilling Pool D decider. They will meet rivals Australia in the Cup quarter-final tomorrow.
