Tournament Review: Hartpury Sevens
A few days have been gone by since the Hartpury Sevens, time to reflect. It is always tricky to digest such great milestones, as there is so much enthusiasm and emotions involved, which is fantastic and which is why we do and love events like these.
However, with anything you worked extremely hard for, once the event has been passed, there is that great feeling of relief afterwards. Relief, because you know you have done your job and now it is time to focus on the next one.
This tournament was for us as a business probably the biggest challenge. It involved over three months of planning. We communicated with over 100 teams and many more individuals. Many people worked countless hours on this project, without asking for anything. The effort was just phenomenal. Knowing that there is such a strong and committed team behind the Bamboos makes it much more comfortable to look towards the next projects.
However, the best planning becomes useless if the people you invite don’t deliver. And thankfully, they did deliver. All teams, all spectators and referees seem to enjoy the day. We had so much positive feedback from all ends.
It seemed that we were extremely lucky with the balance of the teams, so that there were many exciting and close games of 7s. This is obviously a vital element of a successful tournament. The better the standard, the more enjoyable the overall experience.
So, altogether we are extremely pleased with our first go. However, it wouldn’t feel right to lean back now and just try to copy the same tournament again. We learned so much within the last months and it is our desire to apply the lessons to the next attempt. Therefore we have one big aim for Hartpury Sevens 2015 – Make it bigger and better.
