At the opening day of the South West 7s Festival, six schools came together to compete at the inaugural SW7s Schools Cup. The year 9 teams added a great value to the day by showing some stunning 7s skills throughout the 15 played matches.
In a round-robin structure each team played five matches on a full size pitch. After five rounds, Bristol Free School finished on top with convincing 5-out-of-5 wins. The team from Westbury on Trym were full of young talents many of them only just started rugby a few months ago as the coach told earlier. The runner’s-up title went to Katherine Lady Berkeley’s School. With three wins, one draw and just one loss the team just became second ahead of Chosen Hill School from Gloucestershire. In addition Orchard School, Bradley Stoke Community School and Gordano School took part in the tournament.
7 Bamboos Rugby are working together with the festival organiser once again this year. Part of this joint venture is this community school tournament which aims to offer youngsters to play the latest Olympic sport. Junior players will get another opportunity to play 7s this Sunday at the SW7s Development Sessions with former England 7s coach Russell Earnshaw. This event is for u15s/u16s players and spaces are still available. Book a place here.
