At 7 Bamboos Rugby’s first-ever junior 7s tournament, eighty young rugby players from Gloucestershire came together and took the unique opportunity to play 7s at the home of Gloucester Rugby; Kingsholm Stadium. Ahead of the Premiership 7s tournament the under-14 teams set the stage for the Group B competition of the series with some outstanding rugby in front of a large crowd of families, friends and coaches.
The teams were split into two pools, including Coney Hill, Cinderford, Lydney and Stow-on-the-Wold in Pool 1 as well as Drybrook, Longlevens, Minchinhampton and Old Pats in the second pool. 12 exciting pool-stage matches were concluded with a big final between the top teams from each pool.
Stow-on-the-Wold and Longlevens managed to stay unbeaten throughout the pool stage and qualified for the final. However in the end it was Longlevens who secured the title with a strong team performance.
In addition the coaches from each club had the opportunity to nominate one outstanding player. Out of the eight nominations, the “Player of the Tournament” title went to Will Green from Lydney who received a signed Gloucester Rugby ball for his great efforts on the field.
However it would be fair to say that on this day all teams won. Thanks to Garry Little and his team from Gloucester Rugby Community, each player and coach received free tickets for the Premiership 7s in the evening to reward their fantastic achievements.
With the “Curtain Raiser”, 7 Bamboos Rugby further extended their range of offers. The plan is to provide more of such platforms for junior players. Having the opportunity to use such impressive facilities like Kingsholm just makes the overall experience even more exciting for all participants.
