Date: 6th of July 2015
Location: Hartpury College
In glorious sunshine 12 sides enjoyed a fantastic day of touch rugby and team bonding. Teams from all over the area and across industries participated in the second edition of the West Country Corporate Challenge Cup. In the true spirit of the sport the mixed-gender teams were fighting hard for every try on the pitch and cheered each other on off the field.
Additionally to the many trophies Hartpury’s rugby union teams won in recent years, there is now another piece of silverware in the cabinet.
A mixed team of college staff secured the Cup in an exciting final winning against a strong and experienced team from Safran (former Messier-Bugatti-Dowty). Safran featured a range of skilful French and English touch rugby players and showcased a brilliant display of rugby throughout the day. However, in an entertaining final, which ended 7:5 to the college side, both sides created plenty of scoring opportunities it was Hartpury who were a little bit luckier at the end of a long day.
In the semi-final Safran beat Artis HR 6:3 after topping their group in the pool stage while Hartpury just managed to get away with a 4:3 win over Deloitte in a tense and close semi-final. In the other finals, Gloucester College beat Enterprise 4:1 to win the Plate trophy while the South Gloucester Council overcame Business West 4:1 to take home the Shield trophy.
A big thank you goes to all referees for their outstanding work throughout the day and Hartpury’s sports massage lecturer Dean Seeliger for providing first-class service.
